When you boot up Sweet Pop 1000 by Betsoft, you’re going to get an immediate sense of déjà vu. A 7×7 candy-themed grid? Cluster pays? Spot multipliers that double up to 1,024x? Yes, it shares its board and its doubling cells with Pragmatic Play’s smash hit, Sugar Rush 1000.

But before you write it off as just another lookalike, let’s look at how it actually plays. The mechanics are as fun as ever, but there’s a big difference under the hood that players need to know about before chasing the bonus.

The Base Game: Chasing the Chain Reaction

Like most grid slots, Sweet Pop 1000 relies on a tumbling (or cascading) mechanic. Any cluster of five matching candies touching horizontally or vertically pays out, pops, and lets new symbols drop in.

The entire game revolves around the “Cell Multiplier” feature. When a winning cluster clears, it leaves a mark on every cell it sat on. If a subsequent tumble results in a win over that exact same spot, it turns into a 2x multiplier. Every time you pop a win over that cell during the same spin, the multiplier doubles: 4x, 8x, 16x, all the way up to 1,024x. If a winning cluster covers multiple multipliers, they are added together before boosting your win.

In my session, the base game played exactly like you’d expect from a highly volatile grid slot. Across a few dozen spins, about a third of them returned small, fractional wins that didn’t cover the bet. Because the grid wipes clean between base game spins, you need a long chain reaction to get anywhere.

I did have one great sequence that cascaded six times, dropping fresh matches perfectly onto marked cells. It built up a patch of 2x, 6x, and 8x spots, eventually connecting some premium red lollipops for a nice 10x top-up. It proves the mechanic works beautifully, but you really have to be patient waiting for the tumbles to align.

A Top-Heavy Paytable

Betsoft has designed the math here with a very steep curve. The symbols are heavily weighted toward massive clusters. The premium red lollipop returns your stake for a minimum 5-symbol cluster, but scales all the way up to 150x for a 15-symbol cluster. On the flip side, the low-paying blue candy requires a 10-symbol cluster just to break even.

You’ll notice quickly that adding one symbol to a small cluster barely moves the needle. A 9-symbol cluster is a minor hit, regardless of the candy. But once you cross the 12-to-15 symbol threshold, the payouts spike aggressively. You aren’t just looking for wins; you’re looking for screen-filling wins.

Free Spins: Sticky Multipliers, but a Downside

Landing 3 to 7 swirled lollipop scatters triggers between 10 and 30 free spins. This is where the game shows its teeth. Inside the bonus, the multiplier spots become sticky, meaning they don’t reset between spins. A cell that hits 16x early in the bonus can easily snowball into a 512x or 1,024x multiplier by your final spin, just waiting for a cluster to sweep it up.

However, here is where I have to be brutally honest and dock the game some points.

The doubling-to-1024x mechanic works the same way it does in Sugar Rush 1000, but Betsoft has capped the max win here at just 2,500x your bet. For context, Sugar Rush 1000 boasts a 25,000x max win. Betsoft lists the RTP at 95.94%. Usually, when a studio puts “1000” in a slot title, it implies high volatility and huge potential. Capping a game with this specific escalating multiplier mechanic at 2,500x feels incredibly underwhelming. To reach it, you’d need a 15-symbol red lollipop cluster landing on cells whose multipliers add up to about 17x.

If you love the gameplay of Sugar Rush but want a slightly softer math model where you might actually hit the game’s cap, this is a perfectly fine alternative. However, hardcore volatility chasers looking for life-changing payouts will likely be turned off by the restricted 2,500x max win and stick to Sugar Rush 1000.
