So, I recently gave Booming Games’ new slot, Vampires: Blood Moon, a spin. It’s got a great, moody gothic vibe on a standard 5×4 grid, and it reels you in with the promise of a 15,000x max win (with a standard 95.8% RTP).

But straight away, things felt a little… clunky. Even picking your bet size is weird, you can’t just bet a flat 1.00; the options skip straight from 0.90 to 1.20. Honestly, that awkwardness sets the tone for the whole game. If I had to describe this slot in one phrase, it would be: “Look, but don’t touch.”

Here is what you need to know before you play:

The Ultimate Tease

The base game has 30 paylines and a coin-collect feature. You’ll constantly see these glowing moons land on the first four reels with juicy cash values attached (anywhere from 1x to 50x your bet). The catch? You only win that money if a specific Vampire lady lands on the 5th reel.

Spoiler alert: she almost never shows up.

You will spend half your time staring at a board full of cash, only for the 5th reel to drop a useless “J” or “Q.” It’s pure torture. Even when I finally hit the collect symbol, my biggest win was a measly 19x my bet. The game tries to help you out with two coffins at the top of the screen that randomly burst open to collect whatever moons are on the screen. It’s a nice surprise when it happens, but a random 7x win barely makes up for the fact that the coldest it got was eight spins in a row paying nothing.

Free Spins: The Illusion of Upgrades

If you manage to hit three scatters, you get 15 free spins. The bonus round completely ditches the moon feature for an upgrade system. Every time you win with a low-paying letter symbol, it gets removed from the board for the rest of the bonus. Win with a high-paying symbol, and it upgrades to a gold version, doubling its payout permanently. Sounds awesome, right?

Well, the math is super lopsided. The silver heart locket is the big ticket (five of them pays 133x, and the gold version pays an insane 266x). But the game almost never lets you upgrade the heart. You’ll get all the cheap upgrades for pocket watches and goblets, leaving the one symbol that could actually get you close to that 15,000x max win totally untouched.

The “Blood Moon” Finale (Brace for Disappointment)

The whole bonus round is basically just building up to the 16th spin, the “Blood Moon Spin.” During your first 15 spins, any Wilds that land are collected in a meter. On your final spin, the game throws all those Wilds back onto the board at once. (You can also just pay 75x your bet to buy straight into this feature).

The problem? It’s a total lottery. The game just scatters those Wilds randomly. If they all clump up on the right side of the screen and don’t connect to the first reel, your big dramatic finale pays absolutely zero. Nothing. Zilch.

The Verdict

Booming Games has been shipping tamer machines lately, like Mr. Oinkster’s Key to Riches, which runs the same 95.8% return against a much lower 4,000x cap, but Vampires: Blood Moon is a different beast. It flashes a much bigger jackpot on the billboard, but actually getting it requires a literal miracle: you’d need a screen full of gold hearts and perfectly placed Wilds on one highly volatile final spin. It’s a fun theme, but if you’re going to play it, be prepared for a whole lot of teasing.
