If there’s one thing the slot world isn’t short on, it’s fishing games. If there are two things, it’s Christmas reskins. Booming Games has decided to combine both with Fish Tales: Jingle Bass, taking their familiar fishing engine, slapping a Santa hat on the fisherman, and sending us out onto the ice.
Underneath the festive graphics, the numbers match the studio’s earlier Fish Tales Monster Bass and Fish Tales Halloween: a 5×3 layout, 20 fixed paylines, a solid 96.1% RTP, and a 5,000x max win. It’s not a step up in potential, but rather a seasonal alternative for players who want to cast a line while drinking eggnog.
Is it worth braving the cold?

- Max Win: 5,000x
- Layout: 5×3 (20 Paylines)
- Features: Fish Collect, Free Spins, Christmas Bass
The Base Game: A Waiting Game
The base game runs entirely on a Cash Collect mechanic. In my spins the standard fish carried 0.25x to 3x and the Gold Fish 5x to 20x, though the rules only give one shared ladder for all cash symbols, 0.25x up to 1,000x.
They pay nothing on their own. They are just window dressing unless the Wild Fisherman lands on the same spin to reel them in.
Over my two dozen spins, the game showed exactly how brutal this math can be. In one particularly painful spin, I had 28.25x worth of cash sitting on the grid, including a shiny 20x Gold Fish, but because the fisherman was nowhere to be seen, the spin paid zero. When the wild did finally show up a few spins later, he gathered seven small fish for a rather underwhelming 3.75x payout.

Because the wild doesn’t land very often outside the bonus, the base game can fall into some seriously quiet stretches. My coldest streak was about a dozen dead spins in a row. The game does have three random modifiers to break up the grind (like a “Big Net” that scoops up cash without needing a wild), but none of them triggered for me.
Tip: There is a Boost+ side bet that costs 1.5x your stake to increase feature triggers. The game doesn’t explicitly state the improved odds, but if you have the bankroll, it might be worth it to skip the base game slog.
The Bonus Round: Reeling in the Christmas Bass
The real potential, and the most interesting mechanic in the game, is locked behind the free spins, triggered by landing three or more scatter floats. (Note: The game features a collection pot above the reels that fills with every scatter landing in the base game. The rules confirm the count doesn’t change your odds of triggering the bonus, which is a pet peeve of mine, but at least they are transparent about it).

Once you’re in the bonus, the game introduces two mechanics that work brilliantly together:
- The progress bar: Every wild that lands is collected in a bar above the grid. Every four wilds grants you 5 extra spins, capped at a maximum of 15 extra spins.
- The Christmas Bass: This is where things get tense. The Christmas Bass is a massive 3-cell-tall symbol carrying a value between 50x and 1,000x. When it lands, it operates on a mechanical clock. For every spin that passes without a wild, the Bass sinks one cell off the bottom of the screen. If a wild does land, it pulls the Bass back up by one cell.
To actually collect that massive payout, the Bass must be fully visible when the wild hits. It turns the bonus round into a literal tug-of-war. The challenge isn’t just landing a premium symbol; it’s aggressively hoping for wilds to keep it from slipping off the board before you can catch it. It’s incredibly stressful, but in a good way.
How Realistic is the 5,000x Max Win?
While hitting a 5-of-a-kind Boat line in the base game pays a respectable 100x, getting anywhere near the 5,000x cap requires a deep run in the free spins.
Even the largest Christmas Bass tops out at 1,000x (a fifth of the cap). To max out this slot, you’re going to need the progress bar to extend the round to its absolute limit, allowing you to haul up a premium Bass, sweep up a few Gold Fish alongside it, and connect some high-paying Boat lines simultaneously. The entire game hinges on whether enough wilds land to pull that towering cash symbol out of the ice.
If you’re a fan of Booming Games’ previous Fish Tales slots and want a festive edition, or if you just love Cash Collect games with high volatility, this is a solid holiday spinner. If you’re burnt out on fishing slots, this one probably won’t change your mind.
