Review: Don’t Let the Nostalgia Fool You – Red White & Blue Tristar is a Grind

Look, I get what IGT was going for here. They brought back one of their classic old-school physical cabinets, throwing the familiar 7s and BARs onto a basic 3-reel, 5-line grid. On the surface, Red White & Blue Tristar gives you that hit of casino nostalgia. But honestly? After spending some time with it, the game is a frustrating mess.

Here is what you actually need to know before you play it.

The Base Game is a Snooze Fest

The payouts for your standard hits are painfully low. Mixed BARs pay your bet back (1x), reds pay 2x, and whites pay 5x. That’s as good as it gets before the 7s show up.

Then there’s the wild symbol. Because the game only pays left-to-right, and the wild only ever lands on the middle reel, it can never actually start a winning line for you. Most of the time it just sits there looking useless. If it doesn’t connect to anything, the game throws you a pathetic 0.4x your bet as a “scatter prize.” Don’t be fooled – the game uses this tiny payout to make it seem like you’re hitting something, but in reality, you’ll regularly sit through eight dead spins in a row as your balance slowly bleeds out.

The Most Frustrating Collection Mechanic Ever

Above the reels are three giant stars (pots): red, white, and blue. When a wild lands, it might nudge one of these pots closer to triggering. Red holds a 3x multiplier, blue holds a 5x, and white holds a respin.

Here is the infuriating part: there is no progress bar. You have absolutely zero visual clues to tell you how close you are to triggering a pot. Is it going to pop on the next spin, or fifty spins from now? Who knows! You are just blindly spinning in the dark. Taking away the progress meter ruins the fun of chasing a bonus.

Multiplying Zero by 15

Let’s say you finally grind it out and the white pot pops. You get one single respin, and the game will apply a multiplier of 1x, 3x, 5x, or 15x to whatever you win.

But remember, this is a 3×3 grid with only 5 paylines. Most spins land on absolutely nothing. Do you know how maddening it is to finally trigger the feature, get the massive 15x multiplier, and watch the reels land on empty space? 15 times zero is still zero. It’s a huge letdown.

The “Big” Wins

If you actually want to make money, you have to land the 7s. Three blues pay 30x, whites pay 40x, and reds pay 50x. If you land one of each color on a single line, you get the game’s max prize of 500x. Oh, and the wild symbol doesn’t count toward the 7s, so they have to line up completely on their own.

The Shady Math

Here is the final nail in the coffin: the game runs at a miserable 92% RTP (Return to Player).

But get this – you won’t find that number anywhere in the game’s rules. They literally left the RTP row blank. The rules page is also a mess; it claims the game doesn’t have wilds or scatters right before paying you a scatter prize from a wild symbol. It just feels lazy.

Usually, if you’re going to put up with a terrible 92% RTP, it’s because you’re chasing a massive, life-changing jackpot. But here? You’re playing awful odds for a capped 500x max win, chasing invisible collection pots, and praying your multipliers don’t land on dead spins. Save your money and play something else.
