Playtech’s favorite foraging trash panda is back, and this time, he’s dressed up for spooky season. The Racaroon Halloween is the third installment in the popular Racaroon series. If you played the original, you’ll feel right at home here: this keeps the original’s 5×3 board under a fresh coat of paint, though it does carry a slightly lower RTP than its predecessor (if you want grid changes, you’ll want to look at The Racaroon 2).

So, does this Halloween special hand out full-sized candy bars, or is it mostly just cheap tricks? I took it for a 200-spin session to find out.

The Core Gameplay: It’s All About the “Hot Zone”

The Racaroon Halloween is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with 40 fixed paylines, but in reality, your eyes are going to be glued to one single spot on the board: the middle reel.

This is a Cash Collect game with a strict twist. The Raccoon Wild can only land in the designated “Hot Zone” on reel 3. While the game loves to tease you by scattering valuable prize coins across the grid, they are just decorations unless the Raccoon lands in the Hot Zone to collect them.

During my session, I found this mechanic to be a bit of a double-edged sword. When the Raccoon doesn’t land, a board full of coins can feel frustrating. Over roughly 200 base spins, the Raccoon swooped in to collect coins a handful of times, usually handing back modest top-ups in the 5x range. You’ll also want to temper your expectations for standard line hits; three “eyeball spoon” lines running through the wild paid out just 0.75x. This is very much a feature-driven slot where the base lines act as filler to keep you ticking over.

Building the Multiplier & Feeding the Meters

Playtech has layered in some great persistent features to keep the base game interesting:

  • The Win Multiplier: You have a persistent multiplier that climbs from 1x up to a cap of 10x. Every time a “1 UP” symbol lands, you climb a step, and this carries over between spins. However, cashing it in requires the stars to align: you need an “X” symbol, coins, and the Raccoon in the Hot Zone all on the same spin. It’s a slow burn, but when it hits, it helps. I managed a 6.15x win this way, though I had several painful spins where an X and plenty of coins landed without the Raccoon to trigger them.
  • The Special Prize Meters: Above the reels sit four progressive prize meters. Every colored coin that lands feeds its respective meter, regardless of whether the Raccoon collects it. The downside is that the only way to win these pots is by triggering the random Golden Macaroon pick-me round. While it didn’t trigger during my session, watching the meters steadily climb adds a nice layer of anticipation to otherwise dead spins.

The Main Event: Racaroon Respins

The real treat in this game is the Respin feature, triggered when a BONUS symbol lands alongside the Raccoon.

This transports you into a classic Hold-and-Win style bonus. The Raccoon locks into the Hot Zone, and the remaining 14 positions spin to reveal only blanks, coins, or 1 UPs. You get 3 respins, which reset every time a new symbol sticks. The ultimate goal here is the top prize: filling all 14 empty spaces awards the 5,000x GRAND Jackpot, and with the coins underneath it the 9x multiplier buy can reach a 5,529.09x max win, while a round started from the standard bet tops out at 5,192.5x.

Feature Buy Options

If you’re playing in a jurisdiction that allows Bonus Buys, The Racaroon Halloween offers an incredibly flexible menu with 10 different options. You can buy a guaranteed respin round starting at 20x your stake (with a 1x multiplier) all the way up to 122.5x your stake (for a guaranteed 10x multiplier).

The math favors the 8x multiplier buy. It holds the highest RTP in the game at 95.01%, which is a slight bump up from the standard base game RTP of 94.86%. (For comparison, Playtech’s recent Cash Fortress uses a similar hold-and-win style but only offers a flat 100x buy-in).

However, if you enjoy persistent mechanics where you can watch your multipliers and jackpot meters build over time, and you love the thrill of a classic Hold-and-Win bonus, this spooky trash panda is definitely worth a few spins this Halloween season.
