If Moonlight Princess gives you a serious case of déjà vu, you aren’t going crazy. This anime-fantasy release looks and plays almost exactly like Pragmatic Play’s smash-hit Starlight Princess. It shares the exact same paytable, the same 5,000x max win, and the same mechanics.
So, why should you play it? One massive reason: the RTP.
Moonlight Princess runs at a staggering 98.00% RTP. In an era where 94% to 96% is becoming the industry standard, this is a big step up from Starlight Princess’s 96.50%.
Here is how my session went, and what you need to know before you spin.
The Mechanics: Scatter Pays and Tumbles
The game plays out on a 6×5 grid where traditional paylines don’t exist. Instead, it uses a Scatter Pays system: you just need eight or more matching symbols anywhere in view to trigger a payout.
When you hit a winner, the standard tumble mechanic kicks in. Winning symbols pop and vanish, the remaining symbols drop down, and new ones cascade into the gaps. The chain only stops when a drop produces a dead spin. It’s a tried-and-true formula that keeps the pacing fast and engaging.

It’s All About the Orbs
I’m going to be fair here. The paytable is incredibly top-heavy. Sure, landing 12 or more of the premium red sun medallions pays a handsome 50x your bet, but the five filler gems at the bottom of the paytable pay absolute pennies. A cluster of ten yellow gems won’t even cover the cost of your spin.
Because the base symbols carry so little weight, the entire game relies on the winged heart multiplier orbs that drop at random. These carry values ranging from 2x all the way up to 500x. When a tumble sequence finishes, any orbs in view are added together and applied to your total win. If you don’t get a win, the orbs do nothing and disappear on the next spin.

Across my base game spins, about a quarter paid out, but the raw tumbles rarely amounted to much. The tumbles aren’t where the money is; their only job is to keep the board moving long enough for a multiplier orb to drop and rescue your cheap symbols. My best base game hit came when a cluster of worthless yellow gems landed next to an 8x orb, turning a losing spin into a 6x profit.
The Free Spins: High Tension, High Reward
Four princess scatters trigger 15 Free Spins. If you want to speed things up, you can turn on the Ante Bet (paying 25% more per spin to double your feature chances) or use Buy Free Spins for 100x your stake. Just note that the two are mutually exclusive.
Inside the bonus, the reels are juiced up to drop multiplier orbs far more frequently, though you’ll notice those premium red suns become a bit scarcer to balance the math. The whole round revolves around a total multiplier counter, but the rules governing it are notoriously strict.

Here is how it works:
- An orb landing on a winning spin adds its value to the global total for the rest of the round.
- Crucially, that global total is only applied to future winning spins if a fresh orb also lands on that exact drop.
This creates a stop-start rhythm. You will watch your counter climb without paying out, or you’ll get winning spins that don’t trigger the massive multiplier you’ve built up.
So the spins that matter are the ones where both halves line up: a wide tumble of cheap filler gems, a fresh heart on the same drop, and a total that has had time to grow.
The game is capped at a 5,000x max win. Technically, the math allows this to happen instantly in the base game, a 500x orb landing next to a 50x red sun combo instantly ends the round at the cap.
Should you play it? Absolutely. While I usually dock points for lookalike games, Moonlight Princess gets a pass. The gameplay is just as exciting as Starlight Princess, but the jump to a 98% RTP makes this the objectively smarter choice for your bankroll. Just be prepared for the dry spells while you wait for those multipliers to line up.
